Gotta span a LAN cable accross a stretch of open air. At least for some time until we can put it under ground. Does anyone know how they handle UV exposure? Something like a CAT7 or 8 installation cable. Any recoommendations for outdoor installation?

Although the sheath may hold up to exposure (atleast for a while) I'd not recommend suspending at it height at all unless you can provide a better route to ground than the equipment connected at either end. If the source and dest structures have independant power I'd be careful as if they are out of phase it could induce currents along the cable in some curcumstances and potentially damage the equipment. Other than that I'd say any outdoor grade CAT5e/6 should be able to stand up to the elements for a bit evenif exposed. A wireless link/bridge may be a better temp solution depending on equipment you have to hand/can borrow and performance demands. · 4 months ago

cheap conduit might help. or just run a new cable when it deteriorates, they shouldn’t be too expensive compared to other copper wire gauges. · 4 months ago

I run a cat 6 cable down the side of my house, since for some reason our phone connection was upstairs. It’s been there for years now and still works fine. The only real downside is occasional dropouts during thunderstorms. · 4 months ago
