I have been thinking about where to get my next retro-computing fix. I lean toward emulators because i am more interested in software than hardware. Thinking about trying OpenMSX, Nextor, and SDCC. I was pleased to find that OpenMSX uses TCL to control the emulation. I am curious to hear about emulators for 8-bit platforms other than MSX. Which have you enjoyed using, and what made it fun for you?

@kevinsan Thanks for recommending Altirra. I love the idea of having all that built-in debugging power. I am using Linux and i read that Altirra runs fine in wine. ยท 2 years ago
I have heard good things about the MISTer, which uses an FPGA to create the hardware for the desired system on demand. Supposedly it's about as accurate as you can get without the original HW. I don't have one because $ and because retro gaming would easily consume all my time if available. ยท 2 years ago
Altirra (8-bit Atari) has very accurate and comprehensive simulation, seems efficient, and has lots of debugging tools. It's almost an IDE. ยท 2 years ago
