If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle. Sun Tzu: Supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy鈥檚 resistance without fighting. - Sun Tzu 路 1 month ago

@soaringotter woah, there a a lot of reasons. mostly i think cos it is not just about war, itis more a kinda philosophical work. the theoretical concepts work in several situations.. in job, in relationship.. remember that this book had been written 2500 years ago. If you prefer some more modern strategy books I'd recommend von Clausewitz or von Dach. But to be honest, i think all in all it does not cover the nature of modern warfare. they had no drones or cyberwar in their days xD 路 1 month ago

I suppose I should stop being lazy and read it as well. Know it only from its reputation. Ishmael was a neat book, only read it once a while ago so I can't remember much beyond the main jist and a line or two. 路 1 month ago

I haven't read it before. It looks interesting. What makes you like it so much? 路 1 month ago

I read it many years ago. It's indeed a good book. One of my favourites is Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. 路 1 month ago
