It's a crucial moment worth remembering: I've got an essay to post and no place to post it, except on platforms that (a) require a proctology examination (aka normie social media) or (b) don't work over Tor (aka almost everything else including Reddit and the chans), or (c) have censorship policies that make it impossible to participate in good faith. Question, is there a place to post longform content in Geminispace that doesn't require a login via HTTP, and is not @skyjake's BBS? Is there a pastebin in Geminispace? Thanks.

Yes, your capsule on your server w. your rules for the first question. The fewers brokers the better.

About the second question, if doesn't exists make it. · 3 days ago

Unless you're dealing with someone like a state actor having considerable resources, no one would bother linking your two online identities together and requesting that info from your email provider.

And the poing of my "shifting responsibility" remart wasn't blaming you, I could've used better wording, but I was running out of characters and didn't want to split my reply into several parts. What I meant is that operators of services that allow you posting anonymously are taking responsibility for what you do — they might not be willing to take it and they avoid it by not letting you use TOR, introducing registrations, etc… That's it! · 3 days ago

Well, I "weirdly" assumed that you wanted to post it anonymously from everything that came before the question about pastepin-like service. If you are willing to go such lengths as using TOR at all times and using email not used before, this goes well beyond normal privacy hygiene. If you want to avoid your essay being linked to your already existing online identity, just request an email alias from the email provider you're already using, sign up for a new account on any Fedi instance with open registration, publish it there and never use the account again — problem solved. · 3 days ago

Finally, as far as hosting my own Gemni capsule goes, it's coming. I mean, what choice do I have? · 3 days ago

Allow me to add a point about using emails as signups via HTTPS as many Geminispace services require. First of all, where can one get a free email account that works over Tor and does not require your phone number? It's not obvious. The last time I tried to get a non-throw away email -- about 2 years ago -- it took me over an hour to find one and it would probably take longer now. I sent one email from that address. The upshot is, to sign up for these Geminispace services, you have to go to clearnet to seal the deal, thus compromising your identity -- when the Gemini protocol offers TOFU. In response to me asking if there's a pastebin in Geminispace, you weirdly assume I need to post my essay anonymously, and then tell me that if I post something illegal I'm "shifting the responsibility". Okay. All I'm pointing out is that it's become impossble to post anywhere without first bending over. Even the marginal sites are behind various forms of lock and key. 4chan, for example, has recently become almost useless as a media repository due to Cloudflare interference with Tor. YT has developed at least two Tor-hostile techniques making it nearly useless. Reddit auto-shadow bans Tor accounts. Etc. Consider that a weather report. · 3 days ago

There are Fedi instances reachable over TOR, but naturally those require an account too — in some cases you might be able to sign up without giving out your phone number and even an e-mail address.

You can host your own Gemini capsule and make that reachable over TOR, but I still won't consider it completely anonymous state entity with enough resources would still find a way to track you down.

I don't think that truly anonymous way to publish something exists — if you post it on a platform operated by someone else, you're just shifting the responsibility to them and they would take the blow if it's something illegal 🤷‍ · 3 days ago
