I like computers because I don't like people. People are disappointing, close-minded, and herd-like. The main thing people want is for you to like them, and especially to /be/ like them. And if you're not, you're the bad guy. 90% of the "thinking" of the average person consists in signalling to their tribe. If you don't belong to any tribe, then you're not part of 90% of the conversation. Don't worry, they'll label you. Now you're part of the conversation, as the bad guy. I'd rather be alone and talk to computers than talk to people. I can build with computers. People are a waste of time, except in aggregate, as a search space. I don't want to belong.

@softwarepagan we must be mindful to not be blind leading those who are also blind. I think there was a similar post here with similar rhetoric, by the familiar users…

…anyhow, no one is really painted by no one else. We are all our own canvas, after all. Inwards or out, we choose our fate. That said, a nation’s made their vote, the web is bots, and peeps are caught up by “DEI, alpha, sigma, snowflakes, shitpilled, etc and w.e tf” potential disinfo psyops all the while their world dissolves before them complacently so. What a brave new world. · 4 weeks ago

@lucifer_jehovah_smith Sadly a lot of people are very isolated. 💔 · 1 month ago

@hanzbrix That's a good point. One thing that drew me to the net in the early-mid 90s when I went online was the possibility of finding my tribe. And that's basically how things played themselves out. There's no reason we should be as isolated as we are. · 1 month ago

@half_elf_monk @lucifer_jehovah_smith I believe that pretty much sums it up, with the IQ spread 90%+ of the population has no natural curiosity or any kind of drive to "figure stuff out". Which means they live their lives according to emotions and social interactions.

If you look at it that way, you'll get a lot less stressed out by people. As people we all need each other, we in fact can't survive as a species without "community". Part of today's problem is that we in fact do not live as communities, but isolated islands of 1-5 individuals. Some of the greatest joys of life, is to be found with other people, the right people. · 1 month ago

Here's the thing: computers are designed by people, and since 1984 and the original Mac, a lot of that design has been about pandering to normies. The trend is to provide experiences, not tools: experiences tailor-made for the sort of people who have absolutely no natural curiosity or sense of wonder. · 1 month ago

I also dislike people. But maybe the problem isn't people so much as "people who don't/can't think about very much." Consider IQ distributions over population, apply the effects of polarizing social media algorithms, and that explains 90% of interactions online, if you're even talking to a human. That said, tribal signals have served us well in the past for a lot of reasons, so in your annoyance don't dismiss them entirely. I rather like tribal rules like "we don't murder random nerds" because it serves me well. · 1 month ago

kidding, that's from the manifesto, not the declaration ;) · 1 month ago

i agree, most people in the carbon space are shit. as always, i'd recommend to read the declaration of the indepndence of cyberspace from perry barlow... " Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is

that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.

My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me

for.

I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual,

but you can't stop us all... after all, we're all alike." · 1 month ago
