Anyone use Meshtastic or the newer MeshCore? I especially like the "room node" feature on MeshCore. It's like your own little BBS, via radio signals.

@dariolab Every day! But I'm in Portland, OR and see up to 600 nodes on Meshtastic. MeshCore is newer, and I only have one contact, but there's a Discord server with about 50 of us trying to start up a new mesh together.
My favorite EDC node is either the Seeed T1000-E or the MuziWorks R1 w/ant. You'll want a solar node outside somewhere - hint, check Etsy for "meshtastic solar"! 路 3 weeks ago
@akrabu do you use it regularly? Getting the (very few) neighbors to jump in on this may be the hardest challenge, the only people living in the area are old and not tech-savvy at all :( But I have some friends not too far away who definitely would be up for the challenge! I just need to do some research on which range to expect from a simple and not too expensive LoRa setup. 路 3 weeks ago
You can integrate it into an APRS like service, which can provide beaconing services, weather reporting, and simple messaging. 路 3 weeks ago
@hanzbrix Yes, it's just little radio devices messaging over LoRa. That's both Meshtastic and MeshCore. Those two are just different implementations.
@dariolob It's super helpful in a remote area, if you can get neighbors involved and get repeaters up. There's a Discord if you have questions, for both Meshtastic and MeshCore both! 路 3 weeks ago
This looks very interesting. I live in a remote area, it may be a fun (and useful) weekend project... :) 路 3 weeks ago
