I recently (November 2021) decided to ditch my VPS in favour of hosting this capsule on Sourcehut.
This means that the following things are broken:
- Comitium feed: This was set up to automatically update every 15 minutes or so on my VPS. I've set it up again on my local computer, but it still means it will only update when I make changes to the capsule. These days, I mostly use Antenna to check for updates anyway, so I'm not too worried about losing this. I'll still leave the link to the feed up anyway, just so I can see for myself which feeds I've subscribed to.
- Random quote of the day: Like Comitium, this was also set up on the VPS, so I'll just set this up to have a new quote every time I update the capsule instead.
- Email address: the eoin@spool-five.com address will no longer work. I've listed my gmail address in its place, but if anyone knows of good/interesting email providers let me know!
I didn't have strong reasons for switching. The VPS was around 7USD a month, and I wasn't using it for much besides hosting anyway. I was mainly interested in trying out different workflows, and trying to make publishing/maintaining the blog/gemlog as flexible and sustainable as possible. I figured that at some point I was going to have to move it anyway, so why not get into the habit of making it a 'nomadic' capsule?
Anyway, I've lost some of the 'real time' features of the capsule, but maybe that's a good thing.

I wrote on my gemlog about providing a version of this capsule over the git protocol[1]. I initially hosted this on the VPS, now it's available on sourcehut.
I took the name for this site from Krapp's Last Tape by Beckett.
Here I end this reel. Box—(pause)—three, spool—(pause)—five. Perhaps my best years are gone. When there was a chance of happiness. But I wouldn't want them back. Not with the fire in me now. No, I wouldn't want them back.
