My current setup

I guess this is as good a starting point as any, and might make for some conversation with whoever finds this capsule.

Hardware

I use a Lenovo Thinkpad L390 Yoga, with upgraded RAM and storage. I thought initially I would need tons of both, because of the amount of containers/virtualization I planned to run on this computer, but so far it's been just a luxury. I love my little "makoblue"(1). Some day I will make the jump to a Thinkpad X1, but so far this baby has been perfect for my needs and I don't expect I'll need a replacement in the short/mid term.

After experiencing some wrist pain/discomfort, I tried with more and more radically ergonomic input hardware. Currently using a Dygma Raise split keyboard, and a Logitech Lift vertical mouse. The latter is a somewhat recent acquisition, so far, so good. It is comfy to use even when on-the-go.

It took me quite some time to dare order the Raise, which is quite expensive. The investment was worth it, though, as it is an excellent piece of hardware. It can be completely customized, supports layers, and has RGB that you can use to ease yourself in to any layout changes you make. Currently sporting cherry profile blank POM keycaps.

Software

My OS of choice is Fedora Silverblue. I have been using Linux full time for a few years now (2018? or so) and whenever possible I try to get away with using it for work too, either dual booting on the work-provided machine, or just using my own laptop. I find Silverblue excellent form a stability point of view, and it helps me avoid the temptation to mess with my system too much.

The other major highlight is Emacs, which I started trying in late 2016 and have adopted for all my work. I'm typing this now using it. I have always like configuring my tools as much as possible to adjust them to my needs and preferences, Emacs is BY FAR the most flexible tool I have ever used. The fact that it's been around for such a long time makes me wish I had known about it earlier, also makes me appreciate how many features it still has that haven't been implemented in other editors. It isn't perfect, of course, but comes as close as possible in my eyes.

I think that's it for today's rant. I had this abandoned in the background for a few hours now and it's time to wrap it up, publish, and close the computer for the day.
