Currently I'm having great success using Shadowdark RPG to run an open table D&D campaign. I'm going to start putting my house rules, system musings, and hints here so hopefully we can establish a nice home for the RPG system on the small internet.

Why my switch to emergent story style gaming?
House Rules
- Characters can normally only have one luck token, but can gain more during a fight through inspiration, but can only end a fight with one. (Most of the really cool things people did to earn inspiration seemed to happen during a fight, when they often already had one they were saving for non-combat rolls. This lets them earn and use them freely in combat, without having to give up using them outside combat.)
- Items sell at 1/2 value, damaged ones at 1/4.
- When a 0 level gets a class level, their rolled 1st level hit points replace the 0 level, but cannot be lower than the 0 level number. (Someone gaining a class level shouldn't become weaker.)
- Carousing: If they take a group outcome, they get an extra +1 vs individual outcomes. (Trying to encourage single roll resolution since with enough players this can take a fair amount of time at session end.)
