Severe Storms Possible Saturday into Saturday Night

A large upper-level disturbance and associated cold front will approach the Ohio Valley on Saturday. A warm and moist airmass will reside ahead of this system, which will set the stage for thunderstorm development Saturday afternoon through the first part of the overnight hours. Damaging winds will be the main severe threat but large hail, heavy rain, and even an isolated tornado or two will be possible, especially Saturday evening across southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky. It is possible that thunderstorms on Saturday morning may hinder the afternoon/evening instability, thus lowering the severe threat. Therefore, please stay tuned to the latest forecasts as details about the threat become more apparent.

Below are severe outlooks from the Storm Prediction Center. The yellow color in the first graphic depicts a slight risk of severe weather. The second graphic shows the probability of severe weather within 25 miles of a point.
