I’m “ideally” placed for this, in a way: I was 18 in 2001. So I was coming into political consciousness right when this transition happened, and it was certainly a case of losing one’s innocence.

surreal would be the word
there was before 9/11
and there was after
definitely a change in
consciousness
and the way the world felt
fear was the overarching theme
and it's only progressively
grown since then
it really tells you something
when conspiracy theories
used to be the sole territory
of paranoiacs and
the mentally unstable
now it's just a part
of the mainstream
