Lorries and cars coming too close to pedestrians in a Kildare town

Paul O'Meara, 16 Dec

Improvements are needed to a footpath in Clane because some vehicles

are coming too close to pedestrians.

Independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy called on Kildare County Council

to “examine options to enhance the capacity of the footpath.”

The path is located at the junction between the main street in the town

and Prosperous Road.

Cllr McEvoy said “vehicles can encroach on the limited space allocated

to pedestrians.”

KCC says it has come up with a draft layout for improvements there

including to “dramatically improve” the location for vulnerable road

users.

KCC says this work will assist pedestrians, including the elderly and

students walking to school.

It will impact on the number of vehicles the junction can accommodate.

KCC also says the proposed changes are in line with standard practices

employed by the

Department of Transport and the National Transport Authority.
