Forgot I had a capsule for a hot minute. The server sometimes just craps out for reasons I haven't bothered to figure out yet. The "running a server on an old phone" was fun, but running a non-standard kind of server (a gemini capsule), on a non-standard OS (Termux on Android), on non-standard hardware (a Blackberry phone), makes debugging a bit harder than usual. I might change the domain name, extending a .site domain is a lot more expensive that I thought.
A lot has happened in the past few months. I went on a holiday to Edinburgh, Whitby and York. I wanted to do something special for halloween, and since it isn't a very popular holiday to celebrate where I live, I started googling around for "spooky travel destinations". Apparently, thanks to witch trials and the forgotten vaults under the south bridge, the city is riddled with ghost stories. It was there that I discovered that an English breakfast was an excellent way for me to start the day. I could usually skip lunch when I had had a plate full of sausages, bacon, eggs and beans in the morning. There were many things to do in the city, though I quickly found out that some museums in the UK are either free of charge, or quite expensive. Strolling past the Water of Leith walkway and taking a detour through the botanical gardens, and hiking up King Arthur's Seat were great ways to get a good view of the city without spending too much money.
Up next was Whitby, which is a small seaside town more commonly known for its appearance in Bram Stoker's Dracula, which is probably why it's the backdrop for the Whitby Goth Weekend held twice a year. It felt a little strange being there alone; everyone seemed to be accompanied by friends, a spouse, and I even saw entire families walking around. I had a quick conversation with Anne Sudworth, a local artist, at the market. When I told her I had travelled to the UK alone, she took one of the postcards she was selling from her table, walked around the table to my side, and put the post card in my bag. I'm not sure whether she did that out of admiration or pity.
Finally, I went to visit York. Though York is known for being an old viking settlement, the local viking museum was closed for maintenance. There was a railway museum with a bunch of old steam locomotives which was pretty cool, the York Minster, and the cute little shops in the city center, but after about two days, I had seen everything that was in walking distance of the city center, and I ended up going shopping for things I absolutely didn't need. Okay, I can somewhat justify the black velvet shirt, since I didn't have one, but the perfume? I almost never use perfume.
On the bright side, I finally passed my driver's exam! Driving is still nowhere near my favorite thing to do. I haven't driven a car much yet since I got my driver's license, then again, I don't a car (yet). Still glad I don't have to take driving lessons anymore, though.
The angel tattoos on my ankles are healed now. I got another appointment for a tattoo a little over a month after the last one. I had already sent the tattoo artist a message in may, but I didn't get an answer until august. It was worth it, though, since that particular artist is the only one nearby who specializes in fineline tattoos. It didn't hurt nearly as much as the ones on my ankles, or the bear skull tattoo I have on my calf. Unfortunately, my rook piercing is still unhappy.
The new pick&place machine should finally arrive next week, and I talked to my manager about what I can do to keep myself busy at work. I hope things will improve soon.
