A dead world is a common theme and/or idea in literature. A place long abandoned, a somewhere long left to die in the hands of any someone or number of someones. A place often marked by a quiet atmosphere and, commonly, a very bleak writing style. Some stories get this perfectly in my opinion, such as Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", but plenty miss the mark of what a story like this should be about.
The general premise is almost always, "X is left alone in a dark world to fend for themselves, here's what happens, and maybe a quick, unexplanatory explanation of why the world has become like this." Optionally it will include some extra story like a political spat, but nothing further than that, I find.
This story is taking inspiration from "The Road" in style and idea, but taking liberties with it's own story.
There is no named main character.
