I telecommute to work, which is based in a different part of the country from where I live. The company gave me a dock to use with my work laptop, and I set up the dock on my desk in the home office I share with my wife. I'd previously only used this desk for my personal desktop computer.
Having my personal computer right next to my work computer is extremely distracting. If I boot that thing up once, half my attention is gone for the rest of the day. I struggle with self-discipline when it comes to using personal devices during work hours.
Today I finally got tired enough of undermining my own productivity to do something about it. I took my desktop off the desk entirely and rearranged the dock to place it in the middle of the desk, where my PC had been.
This actually works out for me in other ways. I don't have a dedicated computer to run my home Pump It Up machine right now; up until now I've used the laptop on which I'd been learning about OpenBSD, wiped and with Windows 7 installed in its place. Now I can free up that laptop again by using the desktop to play dance games.
