How I get things done and organize my life

During this year's summer (2023) I've experimented with a new way of organizing my life and completing milestones, which insofar has proved quite successful! I didn't waste my time trying out expensive, over-the-top complicated and definitely slow applications online: All I needed was a simple terminal (suckless terminal) and the vim text/code editor which collectively occupy less than 10MBs of RAM! Here's a snapshot of my ~/tasks file:

Summer of 2023
D Understand how Bitcoin and Blockchain work, however you want
D Μάθε ροπή αδράνειας και γενικά το υπόλοιπο του στερεού
D Create a simple text editor using ncurses
D Μάθε bash και φτιάξε ένα εργάλειο για δημιουργία απλών μπλογκακίων
D Διάβασε τους Δαιμονισμένους του Ντοστογιέφσκι
  D Read «They Must Die»
D Learn how to use Groff and write a test document in it
D Create a Peer-to-Peer geography game using Javascript
D Create a pixel art editor using nothing more than SDL and C
  D Διάβασε το «Τενεκεδένιο Ταμπούρλο»
~ Learn American and African Geography including USA states and capitals
D Found the Greek Libre Software Society (https://petros_katiforis.codeberg.page)
  D Create a gemini blog (gemini://gemlog.blue/users/petros_katiforis)
D Διάβασε το «Λάθος» του Αντώνη Σαμαράκη
D Learn the basics of awk
D Learn how X11 works under the hood

Winter of 2023
~ Improve your English by reading books and keeping notes
Read popular literature and save useful vocabulary under ~/languages/english
Books currently read: (neausea no-longer-human charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory
			     true-allegiance tortilla-flat twelve-rules-for-life)

Finished tasks are marked with a "D" while pending tasks are noted using the fancy "~" character. From my experience, a simple record of what you want to be done in a relatively limited amount of time (3-4 months or less) can greatly influence your motivation. I now feel obligated to finish what I've promised to myself and the amount of tasks that I've already completed bolsters me to continue my course. In all honesty, a traditional pen and paper approach can also suffice.

If you aren't already writing down your short term goals, then go experiment with it, it might be worth it!
