come in, come in, some tea

have a sandwich, ye will
not takin �� no for answer
hungry strapping thing
clearly ain ��t  ��et proper

warned, three nos, but
fourth ��s the harm

sandwich four dry meats deep
some butter of pure mortar
journey-bread strong
strike a traveler dead

black tea from a bag
milk from a table thing

all tarnished silver
springing into view
glances changing retinue
honey the color of badgers

facing mortality
six war stories in

one mixes honey
cuts sandwich with spoon
dips it, all polite neutrality
morality refusing final draft

ah, your tea, a life-saver
