Without Hesitation
February 18, 2022

we gave our priest cookies
warm and fine
and he to us his benediction
salivation all the while
harvesting our children
chocolate on his lips

we stole his smile then
coming into knowing
behind the cattle in the barn
harvested his benediction
laid his god  �� not ours
in unconsecrated peat

our children growing, knowing
forgiving us in time
keeping well those barn-dark quarters
just behind the oven
shining black and baking
sweet cookies sainted fine
