we can hear the cheerful high-pressure drone
clipped fast rotary at five point five words per second
rolling through a bramble laden in childhood woolens
trolling increases in increments five times greater than initial cost
some nostalgic utility one would wipe oil on while working skidder hydraulics
now a frippery, to be examined for the scent of manual labor
worn secretly in basement redoubts, gaming for a memory of trees

lost fibers washed in water and chemistry
reactive dyes forged in iron and carbon
where instead numbers change hands
while we in the understories listen
entire selves flush against reactor mass
just about warm enough to think

remembering gasoline
softwoods, and sheep
