Interview

went in to take the usual pre-hire drug test
and yep, there ��s the aluminum foil
a single shiny green leaf, gasoline
seven single-gram bottles
each containing what might be friendly
four pounds of baking chocolate
and a razor blade stuck in lipstick
on an otherwise unblemished laboratory surface
rests a note that the panel of judges
is largely indisposed, please go easy on them

the announcer for this live broadcast
speaking warm and slow
over the entirety of the 1970s
informs viewers that this two-hour interview
will cover three categories
use, abuse, and recovery
but that given the condition of both the judges
and the chief financial officer ��s police marriage
primary consideration will be given
to category three

it ��s a trick statement
while less addictive, the correct path
is isolation as needed, counseling
and lots of love

I fry an egg, over-easy
set it between two thin sourdough slices
with light aioli mayonnaise, papercut tomatoes
and a bit of watercress
serve it with dry ginger ale
and acquire a ragdoll cat
only seven hundred dollars
as comfort

a small price to pay
