I was using Gajim in Mac OS and wanted to try it under Linux on my Desktop (normally I use profanity via the terminal) but I couldn’t just nix-shell -p gajim. I did some googling and found a bug report about it not being able to build properly. Which was odd, there didn’t seem to be a packkage for it. Further on in the report were the steps to reproduce and some messages about it being fixed. So here’s how I built, installed, and ran it:
nix-build https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/archive/9ab7d12287ced0e1b4c03b61c781901f178d9d77.tar.gz -A gajim nix-shell -p gajim gajim
And everything worked upon launching. OMEMO was there, I didn’t have to fight with any deps of any kind. It was rather nice. I don’t know why it wasn’t just available without doing a nix-build like in the above, but I’m really happy I can use it.
