Reading news on my ebook reader

I, unfortunately or not, have gotten quite used to quickly reading the news every morning, right after I wake up. Like a morning coffee for others, it helps me wake up and feel ready for the day.

For a long time, this happened while in bed: my first instinct was to grab my phone and quickly browse through the local news sites. Many times, this led to getting up much later than I would have liked to because of the preoccupation with my phone. Not only that, but many times I found myself not really interested in any of the articles, yet still scrolling the site to scratch that anxious itch.

Whether reading news is important or useful is no doubt questionable, but it is a ritual of mine that helps me begin the day and feel "present" by knowing about the goings on of my country/city/etc; this is justification enough for me to keep doing it.

Removing my phone from the bedside table was a goal of mine anyways, since getting to sleep was also made more difficult by its presence, so I returned to an idea I saw on gemini earlier: Reading news on my Nook ebook reader.

I have quite a simple workflow:

Then, I have my own little newspaper right there on my Ebook reader, only with articles that I actually care about, ready to be read anytime and anywhere. This made me realize that it doesn't really matter if the articles are really recent -- if I couldn't finish the news yesterday, finishing them today is fine. I am less anxious when reading the news, and I get up immediately, so I think making this change was overall for the better.

What about you? Do you have a workflow like this? Or do you have suggestions for improving mine? Let me know!
