Outside

A few things to note.

• I was outside recently for the whole day, despite the cold, just being with some friends. It was a lovely time.
• My work is becoming increasingly abstracted from the Real Stuff (OSs and hardware) and I despise it.
• Great enjoyment and satisfaction was gained from setting up a mail server on OpenBSD.

Real stuff is enjoyable to me. The threshold is arbitrary but I know it when I see it. Fake stuff sucks. It is disappointing because of the lack of control and lack of real effects. At work I have to use AWS now and I hate it. It is clear that anything done there is backed by 17 layers of abstraction and so has a vanishingly small effect on anything in reality.
