Back online!

I knew this was coming via this old post from

gemini://gem.billsmugs.com/gemlog/2022-01-29-oracle-cloud-always-free.gmi

but it was still kind of annoying. I had to tear down my existing instance and rebuild it, but I couldn't rebuild it in the Availability Domain that I was using because there was no more availability! So either I wait until there's availability (hours? days? weeks?) or try a new AD, which requires me to wipe out the existing boot volume, which then risks an estimated $2/mo for the boot volume. I do have a backup of my home dir, which is all that matters since everything for my gemini capsule existed within. So I jumped the gun to terminate my existing free boot volume, and uh it still estimated $2/mo for the new boot volume even though Always Free accounts have 200GB of storage and this would only be using 47.

But at least I can choose other ADs so hopefully one of them has Always Free resources available, right?

Nah, lol

There is no availability for Always Free instances in any of the ADs in my region. There are three ADs in my region. And I cannot change my region at all without paying.

Oracle's docs say it may take a few days for more free resources to show up.

So it's been ==DAYS SINCE JULY 20TH== until I got this all back up.

Ugh.

I never got another instance on Oracle.

I'm just hosting at home now. Don't really like opening up my firewall like that, but what can you do sometimes, you know?
