I view Gemini as open source software used by programmers and those who are looking to publish a blog using Gemini log hosting. The purpose that Gemini serves is its vision of providing off-platform software that supplies users with a low-resource web that provides a customizable background for some user immersion. Gemini was originally started by someone who referred to themselves as "Solderpunk". Decisions are made via a forum (similar to GitHub) that allows users to report bugs and/or items that they would like to see added or removed.

“smol.pub” was quite an interesting gemlog. This hosting software provides users with a minimalistic look, on the web version, as well as an explore feed. A manual is attached along with an example blog that is somewhat of a tutorial into using gemlog.

I do think this is somewhat of a useful version of alternative internet in that it helps users defer from the everyday world of Google into their own universe that isn’t used by all that many. It serves a need in providing everyday users with a way to store their blogs and vent their thoughts through this alternative browsing method.
