Couple in collision after exchanging wedding vows in Limerick

Donal O'Regan, 21 Mar

A YOUNG couple, who had just exchanged their wedding vows, were

involved in a collision on their way to the reception, Limerick Live

has learned.

The bride and groom were making their way to the hotel after their

wedding in a church in the east of the county over the bank holiday

weekend. They were travelling in style in a vintage wedding car hired

specially for the occasion when the incident occurred outside Adare.

It is understood the car they were in was struck from the rear.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí and emergency services attended the

scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the N21 near Adare.

“The incident occurred at approximately 4pm. A man, aged in his 60s,

was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for what are

believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

"Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson. It is

believed the person hospitalised was the driver of the other vehicle.

The couple were “understandably very shaken”, according to one person

with knowledge of what occurred.

“They weren't going to let it spoil their big day and they attended the

wedding reception as planned. It could have been a lot, lot worse. The

car was badly damaged. They sought medical treatment on the following

day.

“They are a lovely, lovely couple. The wedding went off in full glory,

everyone was in good form. It was a great day and night despite what

happened,” they told Limerick Live.
