(As of writing this review, only chapter 1 of the game is available. This review may be updated as new chapters are added.)
Cat World is a story-based adventure puzzle game from developer pawprints. Your protagonist is a kitten who has crashed into the earth and does not remember who they are. They meet another cat and the two set off to make it across a bridge that has been blocked off due to a huge horrible creature that comes infrequently out of hibernation.
The first chapter of the game, which is all that is available at the time I'm writing this, takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. Though I don't know what the gameplay will look like long term in future chapters, the first chapter consists of a lot of sokoban-style item-pushing puzzles to traverse the map. Your first goal is to collect five flowers to trade to a local lumberjack cat in order to retrieve your companion cat's radio. So essentially what we know about the gameplay of this game at this point is sokoban puzzles and collecting new items to traverse to new parts of the map.
Though this first chapter is short, I find this game incredibly interesting narratively and am greatly looking forward to seeing more of it come out. It has done a lot of worldbuilding in just this one chapter, in ways that make me want to know a lot more about it. Maybe it's the cats, but it almost reminds me of the ways Achewood would find little moments to expound upon the world it takes place in. If you try and enjoy this first chapter, you can sign up for updates on pawprints' itch.io page.
