missing the mountains

I'm missing the mountains lately. I'm going to get to drive up thru them this weekend on the way to a wedding in New Jersey (yeah yeah, COVID, dangerous, I know), but not really stopping in to see any of it. The part I'm from, the Smokies, we're going to be passing through tonight around ... midnight or 2 a.m. anyway, so I won't get to see much of those. Luckily we're following the Appalachians up I-81 pretty much into New Jersey, though, so it'll be mountain..ous for most of the drive, after we get into Tennessee. But still -- it's not enough, really.

I've been thinking off and on about the end of the world lately, and if it ever does come, I'm going to head up to the mountains. I figure the air is going to be clearer up there, there's less chance for pollution or radiation to get into the ground water, and it's easier to hide, if need be. Just look at the moonshiners and pot-growers up there.

Here in Louisiana, everything is flat. it's got its own kind of beauty, the swamps, the low places, the flowers and birds and bugs and sky and all -- but it's not the mountains, with their paths and hollers and trees and dirt smell and all.

Anyway I've got to sign off b/c my computer's about to reboot to install some update and I've got to get home to get on the road north. Stay safe.
