Sadness at death of retired Limerick nurse in 'tragic incident' days before Christmas

Ellen Gough, 28 Dec

MUCH sadness has been felt in a Clare village following the death of a

seventy year old woman over the Christmas period.

Chrissie (Christina) Madigan of Heathmount, Cratloe, passed away

following an accident at her home on Friday, December 22.

Gardai have confirmed that shortly after 6.30pm, they were alerted

after a woman in her 70s was discovered unresponsive on the driveway of

a private residence in Cratloe, Co Clare.

It's understood Ms Madigan died after being struck by a vehicle. She

was treated at the scene and removed to University Hospital Limerick

where she was later pronounced deceased.

"The matter is being treated as a tragic incident and foul play is not

suspected," said a garda spokesperson.

Ms Madigan (née Corbett), was originally from Limerick city and had

worked as a nurse at UHL before her retirement.

In condolences shared online, she is remembered as "a lovely lady",

"very kind and compassionate" and a "wonderful nurse".

She will repose at St. John’s Church, Cratloe this Friday, December 29,

from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Her Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday, December 30, at 12 noon,

with burial afterwards in Kilmurry Cemetery, Castletroy, Limerick.
