Domingo didn't open, again. I liked to write my plans for the day in the passtimes thread, and then do something else entirely; a kind of ritual, maybe. It is also nice to see a registry of my shifting interests. I can probably use gemini for that. I could even keep a record, books I've found, some thoughts. For years I've only ever used anonymous media, or throwaway accounts, I have never kept much of a persistent identity in cyberspace. Whatever I would say would get drowned in the sea of anonimity. I've been meaning to improve my note-taking capabilities, so I could document some of my process here, and maybe somebody will be amused.
I have about three threads of focus right now: Chinese, Russian, and natural science.
I'm focusing on Hanshan's poems, I found a comment by Rouzer on some of them so I'm reading that and working on a random poem on ocassion. I also keep reading a page of some aspect of the Middle Kingdom every now and then.
I'll have more to say about this in the future, let me just say now that I feel inspired. Ah, hopefully it will last.
This one has been absorbing most of my energy, I find myself oddly mesmerized by this culture. Well, I do like to obsess about stuff. I'm gradually building basic competence in this language, reading about the dissolution of the soviet union, amd continuing to consume russian science fiction, which leads me to...
Now I haven't been much of a fiction reader for years. Which I regret. I will make a special slot for fiction from now on. Right now I've been reading "Пикник на обочине", but translated to my native language, of course, in English it's called "Roadside picnic", by the Strugatski brothers. We watched the film adaptation, Stalker, by Tarkovsky, a few weeks earlier; my wife, naturally, didn't like it. She did like Kin Dza Dza, though, which is a win. I will talk about Roadside picnic when I am done reading it. I am interested in seeing what else russian cinema has to offer.
That's about it for now, I don't know if I should explain how I don't usually read a whole book, maybe I will, later, just talk about how I do things, I am still figuring it out, at least I would like to make some sense. Then again what does.
