On this date n years ago:
- n=8 Assembling my first computer from components, while studying with the optoelectronics engineering lab at Oklahoma State University.
- n=7 Settling in with the summer research program at Temple University's math department. World Cup action on the other side of the globe kept our research team awake at odd hours of the night to watch the games live.
- n=6 Adjusting to a temporary home in northern Virginia while awaiting with trepidation the beginning of graduate studies.
- n=5 Studying for the analysis qualifying exam while thunder and drizzle discouraged outside activities.
- n=4 Preparing for ODE and numerical analysis quals, and keeping house in an apartment whose high cost had prompted me to seek out other options.
- n=3 Eagerly preparing to move out of a Potomac Ave. group house, whose nominally low rent failed to include the additional cost of stress and frustration due to loud, partying housemates.
- n=2 Slowly letting the food co-op begin to eat up larger and larger chunks of my time, with eight-hour volunteer shifts and meetings that run late into the night.
- n=1 Getting a handle on the co-op's bulk foods section with the constraint of biweekly ordering during the summer months.
- n=0 Defending my dissertation after two and a half years of research and writing.
