Books and Zines

2023-07-18

I publish a purely digital* zine here on gemini. But I'm a pretty big fan of real, physical, zines too. Books too. I like to read and it's a mix of paper books and epubs. Another thing I'm a fan of is small indie authors and publishers that focus on the thing they are passionate about. Today I discovered Microcosm Publishing thanks to @rasterweb@mastodon.social on the fediverse. Microcosm is a small indie book and zine publisher/distributor and they have lots of really cool stuff available. DIY books and zines, graphic novels/comics, queer empowerment, health both mental and physical, feminism and more. I was like a kid in a candy store browsing everything on the website! I ended up spending more than I planned but I'm excited about the stuff I have on the way.

Here's the stuff that ended up in my cart. A bundle titled "Bike Punx" that includes 8 different books, all of which sound great. One I'm quite interested in is "Pedal Zombies", a sci-fi story collection about zombies, bikes and feminism. Another book in my order is "Make Your Place: Affordable, Sustainable Nesting Skills". It is a DIY guide to making and doing all kinds of things in and around your home. It is handwritten and hand drawn and looks amazing. The last thing in the order is a mystery bundle of slightly damaged books. Apparently one of their ex-distributors dumped a bunch of pallets of their books at their warehouse, slightly damaged, so they are selling them at a steep discount in bundles rather than trashing them. So much of their catalog sounds interesting that I think a mystery bundle sounds fun and I'm not too worried about getting things I don't want. I will do a follow up post after it all arrives and I have time to check everything out.

P.S. You can get 10% off your order with the code SUMMERREADING.

P.P.S. This is not in any way a promotion. I get nothing out of this. I just discovered this today and all books and zines looks super rad so I was excited about it.
