Further along chapter 1 of Jenny Odell, How to Do Nothing, she quotes Audre Lorde when talking about how her idea of doing nothing is actually about self-care.
Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.
The first half was more immediately obvious to me than the latter. Political? Warfare?
But if one were to acknowledge that there are needs that are not simply wants masquerading as needs. That these are needs that arise from merely being human and haven't been generated and tacked onto us in a society that wants us to never stop consuming. Such an acknowledgement does seem political. And to then fight yourself and the world around you to make sure those needs are met is surely warfare.
