I read today that in the early 1950s, before the introduction of the de Havilland Comet, BOAC flew the Canadair C-4 Argonaut on its London-Tokyo service. The trip took four days and made no less than ten intermediate stops, at Frankfurt, Rome, Damascus, Basra, Karachi, Delhi, Calcutta, Rangoon, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
I know passengers on that route didn't get to explore the stops between London and Tokyo, but it still must have been quite an experience to fly into and over that many places in one flight. Those were really the days when the journey was half the fun.
