I currently play as a Red Mage in Final Fantasy XIV. My original job was Monk, but I made the switch in the game after choosing a Red Mage in our tabletop RPG campaign. My campaign character is an Au Ra, so I also used a Fantasia to change her race in the game from a Hyur. Now the game and campaign characters are exact copies of each other.
Each of us had to develop a backstory for the campaign. When I created my Red Mage in the game, I already had her campaign backstory in mind, and that helped shape every aspect of her character design, from her body type to her eye color. My previous Hyur character has no such background--she was simply a character I had designed with the goal of making her look good.
As a result of this creative effort, I feel much more attached to my current character than I did my previous one. I wanted to play FFXIV more often; I invested more time in learning how to play Red Mage effectively; I even cared a great deal about the clothes she wore and created Glamour Plates for the first time.
While I was growing up, I wrote a lot of stories, mostly fanfiction. I've been thinking about ideas and looking for inspiration to begin writing again. Perhaps as we continue our tabletop campaign, I'll find the motivation to write some stories about our adventures.
