Thinking a lot about the death of one of my favorite authors, Roberto Calasso. We lost him a few days ago, and the world feels worse off for it. His dreamlike texts, swimming with secrets just beyond our perception, are dear to me. They've brought me so much joy in an otherwise shitty year and a bit, one that seems never ending really. RIP my friend.

As you already pointed out, Adelphi introduced a lot of great foreing literature in Italy.

I bought many Adelphi books in my yongness those are still in my parents' house, some belonged to my older brother.

At the first chance I'll take look to their catalogue to remember what I read. You already mentioned Calasso, which is one the few Italians actually published. 路 2 years ago

@gnuserland I unfortunately don't read Italian but yes from what I understand him being at the helm of Adelphia wasa great for Italian literature, introducing tons of stuff from Central Europe and importantly his translations of Nietzsche. Any stand out books from Adelphi you think I should check out (hopefully with an English translation!)? 路 2 years ago

If you're looking for a place to start, The Marriage of Cadmus and Harmony and Ka are two of the most beautiful books I've ever had the priviledge of reading. If you're into politics the Ruin of Kasch and the Unnamable Present are incredible. And if painting is your thing, Tiepolo Pink will bring you a lot of joy. 路 2 years ago
