Yesterday we went to the Bishop's Storehouse and picked up a whole bunch of food. The Bishop told us to get a month's worth, so we filled out the form and went.
Our church is an amazing institution. We went in and everything was organized and laid out in the same order as the form, so we just walked down the aisles and grabbed what we had marked.
We left with the Beetle crammed. And the thing about it, is that it's all good food. Big roasts, fresh vegetables, chocolate milk ;^) (from the BYU Creamery...yum!). Nobody wants to have to accept help like that, but what a blessing it is.
When you're in a situation that you need help like that, you are already feeling pretty bad about yourself. You don't want to be patronized or mistreated. You just want a little respect. The folks at the storehouse were all great. It's hard to explain, but you could feel the Spirit there. I would call it the 'genuine love of the Savior', if I were given to such turns of phrase (which I'm generally not).
It was a great experience, and Jena and I resolved to increase our Fast Offering (when we have income again) so that others can have that help as well.
