So, I've been working at my new job for a couple of weeks. So far I'm really enjoying it.
The place I work is ERG Transit Systems, they are a contractor for UTA and are providing the technology behind UTA's "Tap on/Tap off" initiative.
I'm the token Linux guy. The devices that scan the cards all run Linux, so I'm now the guy in charge of maintaining and developing the software on those devices.
I'm really liking it so far, except I don't have my official work machine yet, so I've been stuck in Windows, which is just awkward for me. Especially since I'm trying to do Linux development in a Windows environment.
That's ok, though, because much of what I've been doing is just reading and studying. I'm starting to become familiar with contactless cards (RFID) and how they work.
My first job is to get the new Discover Zip cards to work. Right now the reader will detect and scan them, but the data I get back is all zeroes.
It's great to be working again!
