my favorite part of retro tech: pulling an old device out and playing the game "did the battery finally give out or does it just take a lot longer to charge than I remember"

@bitdweller On that note, my Game Gear is probably the main thing I own that makes me so thankful for modern rechargeable AAs. I don't understand the people who hate that Xbox controllers use AAs, I know which controllers will still work in 20 years. ยท 3 months ago

@bitdweller It depends on the tech! I actually greatly prefer the stuff that runs on actual removable batteries because now I have rechargeables and can swap those out fresh all day long. But I've been playing with some mid-2000s PDAs and that's the era where you start wondering "is this going to hold a charge anymore or no?" ยท 3 months ago

Battery? The retro tech I remember didn't have a battery. It had batteries, alright, but not a battery. Note: this is not a "My retro is better than your retro", that would be very stupid. I just thought it was funny as older devices usually didn't have a battery. Actually, I had an external (!) battery for my Sega Game Gear which weighed more than the actual device I think! But you'd rest it on the floor/sofa/whatever as it had a large cable on both ends! ยท 3 months ago
