Solaris

Not the silly valley Sun Solaris, rather the Тарковский film Солярис (1972). It is no Fifth Element. Тарковский apparently viewed Western works as "shallow due to their focus on technological invention". Солярис is more like The Man from Earth (2007) where the ideas and the people are the important part. I use "people" here in the lojbanic sense of "prenu" which includes beings not necessarily human. There is technology (video conferencing, space travel, etc) but that is treated as a given, and explanations if offered are often late in coming or mere asides. The ending of Солярис reminds me of another art film, 天使のたまご or Angel's Egg (1985).
