So, thanks to the gemini mailing list I found out about a little thing called a BOM. Byte Order Mark. This is what was interfearing with rendering on my pages because for some reason filezilla opens txt files *which gmi files are) with LibreOffice instead of the default text editor. And for some reason LibreOffice saves text files with this byte order mark, which interfears with how gemini renders thimgs (for now, that might change in the future I dunno.) Easy enough fix by way of grabbing Notepad++ and tellling it to save without this BOM. The hard part really was 'why is thing not rendering right.
So, site difficulties sorted. On to my first wweek back on linux.
In short; once wifi got sorted everything has mostly worked straight awya. There are some glitches and hiccups based on the fact my right eye is still healing from major eye surgery and my left has contrast issues even with dark mode and other steps taken to mitigate, and warframe needed me to manually select directx12 to get stability (crashed frequently under dx11,) and the bluetooth manager that came with linux mint does have some glitchness, but on the whole I can kinda forget about the OS and just focus on doing.
Which is great given the abovementioned 'right eye had retina surgery' and I don't want to spend al day chasing after computer bugs because I have all sorts of other things i both want and have to do during the day.
