I recall poking around one day looking at commands when I ran across `chmod` and decided to play with it. This ended up with my user account being removed from the ability to read my home directory and as a consequence, not being able to login. In terms of 2023, that's probably like `chmod a-rwx ~`. I recall sweating at the computer, now stressed about having to admit my mistake to the Ms. K. I recall Ms. K's dry look and very likely the "I'm so done with your shit." thoughts backing it up. She ended up having to email the system administrators. Obviously, they sorted it out without issue. Thinking about it, I do not know how or why I would have done this. Maybe I was a cocky kid who was trying to keep the system adminstrators from my home directory. Doing naughty things on BBSs was in style for some of the groups of kids who had computers. Probably it was just not knowing how permissions work in Unix.
