Let me reiterate in this venue that I _hate_ Ubuntu snaps. They never work quite well. For example, the way Firefox updates are handled is just abhorrent. You get a notification that there is an update pending, but Firefox needs a restart, but it won't really work unless you do that in the short window that the update is actually retried.

@chime_23 That's fair. I do like python quite a lot. But every now and then I have to spend hours on stuff like that. And I totally agree that adding layers over layers is _not_ the solution. 路 3 months ago

While we're on the topic of hating things, I want to announce that I hate Python. It's supposed to be the easiest thing in the world to pick up. Yet trying to deal with dependencies, and initializing environments and other such complications is a huge waste of time. Yet when you bring this up, everyone has their favorite solution. Nobody sees it as a problem. Reminds me a great deal of the enormous Jenga-like stacks web developers get into to make coding "easier". How about no? 路 3 months ago

Indeed, it's time for snaps to go. Likewise flatpaks and appimages and all these other things that allegedly simplify application management but just end up making other problems. 路 3 months ago

An almost working solution: gemini://ploum.net/2022-04-05-firefox-ubuntu.him

It used to be good, lately I鈥檝e had to purge Firefox and snapd off my system, then reinstall Firefox, which is then the right non-snap one. Ubuntu is up to some fuckery, and I鈥檓 just waiting for Debian鈥檚 next release (soon) to ditch Ubuntu. 路 3 months ago

i think a sudo apt install StumpWM should do the job ;) depends on your choice, arch is definitly not mine, and i am using *nix like OSs since 1997. maybe a BSD like system could work for you also fine. 路 3 months ago

@bavarianbarbarian I'm a StumpWM user, no OpenBox for me! :) Still, I do want to switch away from ubuntu. Arch would be the drug of choice. It's just, I use the same computer for work too, and I'd rather have the same distro as the one we have on our servers so that some issues can be avoided. I might still ditch ubuntu and the hell with issues, if I get annoyed enough! Mainly I need time though, which I don't have in plenty atm. 路 3 months ago
