Losing interest in anime

A friend recently asked me for a list of anime to watch. This made me realize that I have not watched a new anime series in nearly a year. Back in January I did watch the second season of one that I had started, but none other than that. Even then I felt like I only watched said new season because I "had to", and did not really enjoy it.

I wonder why. Perhaps my brain associates anime with learning Japanese, as I did almost all of my anime viewing during my "learning" phase in Japanese. Before I started learning Japanese, I had only seen bits of JoJo. Now that I have reached fluency, maybe my brain thinks that I no longer need to watch anime, even if it comes from a series I enjoy.

For example, I would likely enjoy the recently released anime of Konosuba's Megumin spinoff as I thoroughly enjoyed reading the light novel version a year or two ago. But I just never get around to watching it.

Maybe it has something to do with the way I tend to watch anime. I usually watch a few episodes at a time, but it seems that many prefer to watch shows one episode at a time and wait a day or two between to let it sink in.

Oh well. To keep this post from becoming a complete waste of time to the reader, have a list of anime that I consider the best of the over 100 that I have watched:

ID: INVADED

A story about amnesic detectives who use a mysterious machine to remotely enter the subconscious minds of serial killers to track them down in the real world, and to figure out the identity of the mastermind causing them to kill.

The Helpful Fox Senko-san

An immortal kitsune takes pity on a depressed salaryman working at a black company and takes it upon herself to cheer him up. Luckily for him (and unluckily for her) touching fluffy tail cheers him up considerably. Very relaxing and wholesome.

Kemono Michi

An isekai parody in which an animal-loving pro-wrestler gets summoned to a medieval fantasy world. When the princess who summoned him asks him to defeat the terrible beasts plaguing the kingdom, he German Suplexes her and runs off, making it his mission to spread the joys of pet ownership and pro-wrestling.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (Konosuba)

A parody isekai in which the main character has no cheat powers and eccentric but useless party members.

Made in Abyss

A cute story about a curious girl and robot boy who go on an adventure down a wonder-filled "abyss" to reunite with the MC's mother. Features several fluffy creatures as well as best dad.

If It's for My Daughter, I'd Even Defeat a Demon Lord (Uchimusume)

A very wholesome story about a jaded young prodigy adventurer who comes across a young orphaned demon girl and adopts her despite making a living by killing demons.

Fullmetal Alchemist

A very popular story in which two young boys take the "bargaining" stage of grief a little too literally and must deal with the consequences. I consider it epic in the original sense of the word.

Monogatari

The story of a teenager (un?)lucky enough to come across a powerful but dying vampire who became one himself to save her. He now goes around helping people help themselves with their paranormal problems.

Baka and Test

A comedy about high school students who use test scores as HP in a sort of RPG battle simulator. Follows the antics of Class F, the reject class full of idiot boys and a few unlucky smart girls.

Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu (BOFURI)

A girl starts playing a VR RPG game and decides she wants to max out her defense at the cost of her other stats. This combined with her airheaded nature completely breaks the game, and she becomes unstoppable entirely on accident. A fun, wholesome anime.

Somali and the Forest Spirit

Takes place in a fantasy land where monsters rule and humans have been hunted nearly to extinction by them. An emotionless golem made with the sole purpose of guarding a forest comes across a young human girl and adopts her, leaving his forest and learning how to feel in the process. Has a manga that the author discontinued on a cliffhanger due to health issues.

The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious

An isekai parody. This time, the hero gains godlike power from push ups and sit ups but despite this acts in an extremely over-the-top cautious way. The level 1 slime may have survived the level 100 hero using Atomic Hellfire two or three times, after all.

Sakamoto Desu Ga?

A story that follows a high school student named Sakamoto who has a reputation for his extreme coolness. No matter what the envious do to him, he always comes out even cooler than before.

Cells At Work

The various cells of the human body personified, with bad bacteria appearing as monsters. Follows a new red blood cell and the white blood cell that she becomes friends with. May actually help with relevant classes since it stays fairly accurate to reality. Subtitles recommended even if you speak Japanese.

Ojamajo Doremi

Young girls become witch apprentices after accidentally turning a witch into a frog. Gets surprisingly dark, may cause crying if you are prone to emotions.
