Irish neutrality to be the focus of upcoming public forum in Limerick

Faye Dorgan, 15 Jun

NEUTRALITY is the focus of an upcoming public forum, taking place on

Saturday, June 17 in Limerick city.

Political unrest worldwide has sparked the Irish neutrality

conversation once again, and whether our government could be doing more

to encourage a more neutral approach for others to adopt, globally.

The venue for the Limerick forum is Conradh na Gaeilge, on Thomas

Street at 3pm. The upcoming event is part of a series of neutrality

forums, being held across the country.

The series of public discussions is hosted by groups such as the Irish

Neutrality League, Peace and Neutrality Alliance (PANA), the Irish

Anti-War Movement, Shannonwatch and others.

Speaking of the aims of the groups organising the forums and hosting a

series of nationwide events, Edward Horgan, International Secretary of

the Peace and Neutrality Alliance, said: “Irish positive active

neutrality is essential towards achieving global peace and justice, and

towards avoiding the extinction of humanity.

“There is a strong case to be made for extending the concepts of active

neutrality internationally, but right now the opposite is happening,

with neutrality under attack in Ireland and across Europe.”

Sinn Féin Senator, Paul Gavan summed up the aim of next week’s meeting,

saying: “We want Ireland to use our history to ensure that this planet

has a better future.”
