怨み節

I learned to play the guitar from tabs and from playing in bands, so I never took the time to actually learn musical notation. Every time I tried to learn musical notation in the past I struggled with understanding how to "correctly" annotate rhythms and soon gave up since I didn't really need it for playing the guitar: you can always use tabs. However, a few years ago I got a piano and I've noticed that there's really no easier way to write down stuff for the piano. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone and take proper piano lessons with a focus on music theory. I have only had two lessons yet, but it's been great thus far. First, I play a lot more than I used to and by going through a 15 minute set of basic exercises every day I have noticed my technique is starting to improve as well.

As homework over the holiday I have to annotate the Kaji Meiko song /Urami-bushi/. I took out the melody and some of the chords a couple of weeks ago, but now I have to actually sit down and do the whole song. With Lilypond I can both create the musical notation sheet and also generate midi files so I can check if my rhythm annotations are somewhat correct. [This article] gave some useful advice on how to enable Japanese font rendering, and by adding a relative font directory I can keep the necessary fonts in the same git repo to make sure I can always render it correctly.
