2023

the new year is a celebration of the recent past and the near future, but i have something a little bit different in mind this year. i am very close to achieving some very big goals - i'm about to become a professional software engineer, i'll finally be able to move away from my hometown and forget about my less-than-optimal job and i'll finally have the opportunity to start my life, "for real this time." this is all on the horizon. after years and years of dreaming of it, i can see it in the distance. i've got an article coming soon about this very topic, in fact; i am obsessed with the future and so is the rest of humanity.

anyways, i'm not one to wake up and crave money or fame (if i do happen to get copious amounts of either, i'm not really sure what i'd do with it). everyday, i wake up with ideas that are mostly outlandish or unnecessary or impossible to implement, especially by myself. someday in the future, though, i hope i can wake up and feel the same way i feel now about the things i want to accomplish. just one of them, even. i want to have a drink named after me at the afterlife (just like jackie) for doing something good for the world. yes, i know that was a bad example, but i hope it got my point across.

i hope at least some people feel this way as well. to those of you who do: you are the ones that humanity is counting on. let's band together and make todays world a better, more advanced place than it was yesterday. humanity's been given a chance, and we need to take it. after all, it looks like there's probably not many other things that get this opportunity. let's be the best humans we can in the tiny little flicker of time we've got.

so, after that philanthropic rant or whatever that was, i hope you feel some sort of optimism and responsibility for the future. just remember that whatever happens in 2023 will just be another block in the foundation i hope will support many people to come, so let's build it right.

here's to the future. 🥂
