Wildfires in Canada cause evacuations and hazardous air conditions across parts of North America.

Beginning in March 2023 and increasing in intensity around June, Canada has been affected by an ongoing record-setting series of wildfires. As the worst wildfire season in Canadian history, eleven provinces and territories have been affected, with large separate fires in Alberta, Nova Scotia and Ontario and Quebec. There have not been fires in Prince Edward Island and Nunavut.

In Ukraine, the Kakhovka Dam is breached, causing flooding and prompting mass evacuations.

Early on the morning of 6 June 2023, between around 02:00 to 02:54 local time, the Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was destroyed, causing extensive flooding. Located on the Dnieper river (also known as the Dnipro) in Kherson Oblast, the dam was under the control of the Russian military, which had seized it in the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The dam was 30 m (98 ft) tall and 3.2 km (2.0 mi) long.

In golf, the PGA Tour, PGA European Tour and LIV Golf agree to a merger, ending their pending litigation.

The PGA Tour (stylized in all capital letters as PGA TOUR by its officials) is the organizer of professional golf tours in the United States and North America. It organizes most of the events on the flagship annual series of tournaments also known as the PGA Tour, as well as the PGA Tour Champions (age 50 and older) and the Korn Ferry Tour (for professional players who have not yet qualified to play on the PGA Tour), as well as the PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and formerly the PGA Tour China. The PGA Tour is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, a suburb southeast of Jacksonville.

The European Tour, currently titled as the DP World Tour for sponsorship reasons, and legally the PGA European Tour or the European Tour Group, is the leading men's professional golf tour in Europe. The organisation also operates the European Senior Tour (for players aged 50 or older) and the developmental Challenge Tour; the second tier of men’s professional golf in Europe. The tour's headquarters are at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England. The European Tour was established by the British-based Professional Golfers' Association through the 1970s, and responsibility was transferred to an independent PGA European Tour organisation in 1984.

LIV Golf ( LIV) is a professional golf tour. The name "LIV" refers to the Roman numerals for 54, the score if every hole on a par-72 course were birdied and the number of holes to be played at LIV events. The first LIV Golf Invitational Series event started on 9 June 2022, at the Centurion Club near London. The Invitational Series became the LIV Golf League in 2023.

Former US president Donald Trump is indicted after a special counsel investigation charges him with mishandling classified documents.

United States v. Donald J. Trump, et al. is a pending federal criminal case against Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, and Walt Nauta, a personal aide of his. The grand jury indictment, with 38 felony counts related to Trump's handling of government documents after his presidency, was filed on June 8, 2023, in the federal district court in Miami, by the office of the Smith special counsel investigation. Thirty-one of the counts fall under the Espionage Act. The case marks the first federal indictment of a former U.S. president.

An ongoing special counsel investigation was opened by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on November 18, 2022, to continue two investigations that had been initiated by the Justice Department (DOJ). Garland appointed Jack Smith, a longtime federal prosecutor, to lead the independent investigations. Smith was tasked with investigating former president Donald Trump's role in the January 6 United States Capitol attack, and Trump's mishandling of government records, including classified documents.

Flooding across Haiti leaves at least 51 people dead and 11 others missing.

On 2–3 June 2023, heavy rains caused destructive flooding across Haiti. Western areas of the country were particularly hard-hit. At least 51 people were killed, 140 were injured, and 11 were reported missing as of 6 June.

At least 16 people are killed during anti-government protests in Senegal.

Protests broke out in Senegal on 1 June 2023 following opposition leader Ousmane Sonko's conviction for corrupting young people, which may disqualify him from standing in the 2024 Senegalese presidential election.

Russian invasion of Ukraine (ongoing)

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had begun in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides, and instigated Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. About 8 million Ukrainians were displaced within their country by June, and more than 8.2 million had fled the country by May 2023.

Sudan conflict (ongoing)

An armed conflict between rival factions of the military government of Sudan began on 15 April 2023, when clashes broke out in cities, with the fighting concentrated around the capital city of Khartoum and the Darfur region. As of 27 May, at least 1,800 people had been killed and more than 5,100 others had been injured.
