I rewatched this movie today as it's apprently a classic movie to watch during Thanksgiving, I'm not sure why. Maybe because it's all about family, but I wouldn't call it a family that we can identify with. Or maybe just because they're quite long and can be running in the background all day. That's what we did anyway.
The first entry in this movie section will be straightforward: most people love this movie, and everyone knows it even if they never saw it. So I love this movie, I love old-school gangster movies, and I love Coppola; Apocalypse Now might be my favorite movie of all time.
I had the occasion to see it on a big screen in a concert venue along with its director when Francis Ford Coppola was the guest of honnor and Lumiere award winner of Festival Lumière in Lyon, France in 2019. Even though we left before the end of the marathon during the second movie around 2:30 a.m., it was an amazing experience.
Regarding the movie itself, it's excellent. The image is beautiful and the atmostphere is immersive. The movie is quite long but well structured in multiple acts so I never felt boredom watching it.
To sum it up, tt's a classic. It's almost fifty years old, and yet it looks old-school not outdated. I will probably continue to watch it every few years.
