🏠Back to home

Spring is warm on my legs and came all at once this year

Bird songs melt into the whistles of men I walk past

The flowering dandelion is killed while her sister sleeps in the soil

The red-winged blackbirds are in season, but I am told my dress is not

I know which ones are the girls because of their colours

I wonder if they can clock me so easily

The sumac cannot refuse to fruit for fear of being eaten

My legs are naked like my heart

If it does not pupate, the grub will die

A man asks me out of his car why I am pretending to be a woman

Silkworms don't know why they spin cocoons

My classmates christened me faggot when I wore shorts

The creek baptized my skirt as I followed the damselflies

I am from dust and to dust I shall return

My care guide says some changes might be irreversible

Worms will reverse them when I go to bed tonight

Tomorrow morning I will wake up and my heart will be soil again

It will be soft and wet like it felt it was supposed to be

The groundwater will wash my soul out into the lake

And for every tear I ever tried to cry and couldn't

I will be met with ten thousand raindrops

And the sound of the rain will bring the bass out

And the size of my chest tomorrow will be different from today

And the shape of my face tomorrow will be different from today

And the way I feel tomorrow will be different from today

And I could stay up all night avoiding tomorrow

But I would fall asleep eventually
